Al Qaeda in New York

September 23rd, 2009

Many Americans would like to believe that terror groups no longer threaten the United States, eight years after the attacks of 9/11.  Do not count the FBI and NY law enforcement among those with that mistaken belief.

This week the FBI and NY City Police Department collaborated to arrest alleged ringleader Najibullah Zazi, and two other men in a plot to perpetrate a terror attack using explosives.

The case on Zazi was opened over a year ago, in August 2008.  Zazi has admitted having ties to Al Qaeda, and received weapons and terrorism style training in Pakistan.

Zazi has been a legal resident in the US since 1999, and currently resides in Denver.  He recently took a road-trip to NYC which set legal authorities into action.

FBI and police suspect that over 3 teams of at least 4 men apiece were being organized for an attack.  Zazi’s computer which was confiscated by authorities was found to contain bomb making instructions and video of NY City’s Grand Central Station, as well as information on the city’s stadium facilities.

A New York City Imam is also being held by authorities.

A CBS news report quotes NY City Attorney General Eric Holder stating that the plot is “very serious”.  ABC news cites a senior law enforcement agent stating, “I’ve never been so worried.”

Hats off to the FBI and NYC Police for continuing to keep our country safe.  But lets not be fooled into believing that grave terror threats do not exist because of the heroic efforts of our law enforcement.

Radicals remain intent on perpetrating attacks that threaten national security and the American way of life.

Our Time Has Come

September 15th, 2009

This is the statement that sits on the bottom of the “Islam on Capitol Hill” website. This September 25th, 50,000 Muslims are expected to gather in Washington to join in a day of national unity.

What exactly the meaning behind “Our Time Has Come” is unclear. What is clear is this is an opportunity. It is an opportunity for Muslims to join together and speak out. Speak out against terrorism. Speak out against persecution through Sharia. Speak out against honor killings. Speak out against teaching hatred.

This is an opportunity to show fellow Americans how much each individual there loves America as a free nation which allows them to practice their religion of choice.

When the time comes this September 25th, we’re waiting to see what happens.

An Open Letter to a Naive Mother

September 13th, 2009

Dear Monia Noor,

I read your article in the New York Times on how to explain 9/11 to your Muslim child. Your article caught me off guard. You started the article with a question from your eight-year-old son about 9/11, as then he was just a baby.

You write that “mass murder is impossible to explain to yourself, let alone a child.” You ask that people not “judge a billion people by a few bad apples”? A few bad apples? I don’t think you could belittle the threat that Radical Islamists pose on us even more if you tried. Maybe you should read the newspaper some more and see how many thousands every year are killed around the world in the name of Islam.

So instead of explaining what really happened in 9/11 you immerse your son in religious activities. You teach him that Islam is peaceful. You worry how your son will grow up as a Muslim in America. So you immerse him. Do you know who he is immersed with, what he is learning? How do you know that his peers are not the “bad apples” you refer to? Read more…

This Week, Let’s Remember

September 7th, 2009

Every year that passes since September 11, 2001 it becomes increasingly difficult to remember how we felt on that horrific day. Somehow we found that life goes on. We continued in our daily routines, with work, school, family, friends and life in general.

That is why every year it is more and more important to take a moment during this week leading up to Friday and remember. In addition to remembering we must inform ourselves and others that the threat that faced us eight short years ago still very much exists today.

Looking back over the blog posts from the past few months one thing becomes clear. As Americans, we must open our eyes. What will it take for us to realize how big the threat really is? If it wasn’t the New York Bronx foiled terror plot, then maybe it would have been the shooting of the recruiting officer in Little Rock? Or what about the Minnesotans who flew to Somalia to pick up arms?

Only by informing ourselves and others can we really make a difference so that for the years to come we will still be remembering 9/11 and not the next great American tragedy.
