Homegrown Threat in the Heartland

I bet you think that terrorism is one of those things for faraway peoples in faraway lands. Well, if that’s what you think, then guess what? You would be wrong. 100 percent wrong! Read the latest headlines. Oussama Abdullah Kassir was convicted by a federal jury in New York on Tuesday, May 13, 2009 for building a terrorist training camp on U.S. soil. Some pundits call it Homegrown Jihad, others call it a homegrown threat – training the locals to destroy America from within. This was no threat. It was the real thing. Probably a recent development, right? Something new? A first siting? No, for sure not. Oussama was convicted this week, but the terrorist training camp was built and operated way back in 1999. Before Y2K. Before 9/11. Before George W. A full decade ago. Mr. Kassir was convicted of supporting the al-Qaeda terrorist group by building his terrorist training camp. The Washington Post reported that Kassir traveled to Bly, Oregon in 1999 and created a military-style facility under the direction of Muslim cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri. Al-Masri, the leader of the Finsbury Park mosque in London, has been designated a terrorist by the U.S. Is this an isolated event? Check out the facts. Look here to learn more about the growing number of U.S. Muslim enclaves built across the U.S. If you think this demands action, at the very least a campaign to educate our friends and neighbors about the state of our State, then become a part of our community.
