A True Hero

Capt. Scott Smileys skied Vail, climbed Mount Rainier, got an MBA and won an Espy award. He also served in Iraq and was injured in a roadside bomb attack. He has risen to the challenge of losing his sight to become the only blind member of the US Armed Forces. Not only that he's a happy hero with a family. I had the chance to meet him about a year ago and was totally impressed by his poise, conviction and belief in our nation. I had a chance to sit with him and listen (I watched) The Third Jihad with him. He shared with me his views on radical Islam and terror. I remember that he was sitting with his wife and I couldn't help thinking to myself what a role model for our nation. Here is a guy at the prime of his life that had everything going and he lost a major part of his life, his vision. He isn't bitter and isn't willing to give up. I am so happy to hear that he will be joining the faculty at West Point. If you want to learn more see the whole MSNBC article here. Recent Blog Posts
