Sharia Law

MAC's Declaration of Independence

The Muslims Against the Crusades (MAC) group in the UK has called for the establishment of three independent states under sharia rule within Britain. These states, according to MAC’s website, would run entirely outside British law.
The site says “In time we can envisage that the whole of the sharia might one day be implemented starting with these enclaves.”
MAC was established last year and is known for its violent protests, and the burning of poppies on Remembrance Day.

The Islamic Republic of Egypt?

A recent opinion poll shows that a majority of Egyptians want the Quran as the State’s source of law.
Furthermore, the poll showed that Egyptians are more open to the inclusion of religious parties in future governments, with one in three Egyptians polled having a “very favorable” view of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Meanwhile only 36% of people questioned feel it is “very important” for Christians and other minority religions to be allowed to freely practice their religions.
I guess we’ll have to see what the September elections bring…

The Muslim Brotherhood Praises Ahmadinejad

A senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood has praised Iran for unifying the world’s Muslim countries.
He also said Ahmadinejad is “the bravest man in the Muslim world,” and that Egypt needs “innocent, honest, brave leaders like him.”
And the Obama administration has said it supports a role for the Muslim Brotherhood in a reformed Egyptian government…

South Carolina VS “foreign law”

Foreign laws are becoming more and more prominent in U.S. court cases, especially in cases of divorce and child custody where Shariah Law has been used in several U.S. states.
Similar bills were successfully supported last year in Louisiana and Tennessee.

South Carolina’s House and Senate introduced a bill aimed at preventing ‘a court or other enforcement authority’ from imposing “foreign law”. SC officials say the bill will preempt violations of constitutional rights “resulting from the application of foreign law”.

Wyoming says No to Sharia

A proposed amendment to the Wyoming constitution would prohibit judges from considering Islamic law or international law when ruling.

While no Wyoming court rulings have yet to be based on Shariah law, state Rep. Gerald Gay said the proposed amendment is “preemptive” to ensure Shariah is not used in cases such as those involving arranged marriages or honor killings.

Maybe the passage of this law will be more successful than that of a similar law in Oklahoma which was blocked by a federal judge for fostering “an excessive government entanglement with religion.”

Ban the Burqa, India!

This week, a woman wearing a Burqa stole a 2-month-old baby from a hospital in India. A similar story took place a few days earlier at a different hospital in the country.

In this case, Mohammed, the baby’s 8-year-old brother was watching him, while their mother went to buy medicine. Mohammed “was unable to describe [the woman’s] features since her face was veiled”.

Wearing a Burqa is the religious right of Muslim women. But if the garment is being used as a disguise for kidnappers and other criminals, this religious right is being abused. Maybe it’s time for India to follow in the footsteps of France and the Netherlands. Maybe it’s time to ban the Burqa in India. What do you think?

Iranian non-free press names Sarkozy's wife "Prostitute"

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy was  called prostitute because she supports Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, a mother sentenced by Iranian sharia law to be stoned for alleged adultery. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jGKdAlGxhi2IiOMIsA_QzF...

Bruni-Sarkozy published a touching letter http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bernardhenri-levy/post_727_b_691801.html  in French media to Ashtiani, ending with the words, “In the depths of your cell, know that my husband will plead your cause unfailingly and that France will not abandon you.”

Mudslinging her in retaliation, The Kayhan newspaper, whose editor is a representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, described Bruni-Sarkozy as a "prostitute" in an article titled "French prostitutes enter the human rights uproar."
Could you believe it? I could. State-controlled media is not "we the people" talking.

Superceding Western Law - Egyptian Mother Murdered in Germany

A man stands accused of murdering a pregnant Egyptian mother in Germany.  The crime is hideous.  A man has lost his wife; a small child has lost its mother.   The response from one Muslim cleric has been to call on German Muslims to carry out vigilante justice.  This is also hideous.  According to The Times

A fatwa [religious edict] has been issued against him [the suspected murderer] and authorities fear that he is the target of revenge for the Islamic world… The fatwa has been issued by a Sheikh Ihab Adly Abu al-Madjd in a video clip on the internet. He calls on all Muslims in Germany to take vengeance and “receive the award of Allah.”

Extraordinary measures have been taken at the courthouse where he will be appearing, including the stationing of several hundred police officers and the installation of a wall of bulletproof glass.

The authorities fear a repetition of the riots against Danish and Scandinavian institutions after the publication of cartoons lampooning the Prophet Muhammad in September 2005.

Effectively, Sheikh Madjd and extremists like him are saying that due process in the courts and parliaments is irrelevant; their version of Islamic law should supersede European law.  This is not the first time we’ve seen this kind of behavior.

It is as if the Attempted Honor Killing Never Happened

noor Recently I have felt that perhaps there is a shift in the country and the media is in fact shedding more light on the threats of Radical Islam. Today I realized I was wrong, that no such shift has occurred. Today I tried to find out what happened to that poor girl in Arizona, Noor Faleh Almaleki who was run over by her father for becoming “too westernized”. Her father is still at large and this story has not been touched since the day it happened. Media – we want to hear from you. Why don’t you understand that we care about this girl? We want to hear updates on her status and we want to know that the police are doing everything they can to put her father behind bars. We must demand that media cover these stories, write to your local papers and media outlets and tell them how important hearing the truth is to you and your community.

Rifqa Barry is coming back to Ohio, well maybe…

Yesterday it was announced that Rifqa Bary is to be sent back to Ohio. But not so fast. There will be another hearing when/if her immigration documents are found. This story of a girl who at the age of 17 ran away from home for fear of an honor killing because she converted to Christianity is getting more and more complicated. No doubt, Rifqa has become a poster child. Rifqa represents freedom of religion- the right to choose your faith. She also represents a clash of cultures within the immigrant population. It is a very touchy case. On one hand in general we should be able to put our trust in parents and assume they are not out to hurt their daughter. It could be that Rifqa is an anguished teen, perhaps on the dramatic end of the scale. On the other hand, Rifqa is living in the United States and feels that she will be under direct threat if returned home to her parents. Plus she is almost 18. There is a general consensus amongst those who feel she should be kept in Florida as her parents would ship her off to Sri Lanka at the first available opportunity, which would very likely result in her death. If you were the judge what would you do? Do her parents have the right to at least prove themselves to be good parents or does her fear of being killed trump all else? Let’s exercise our free speech and get the conversation going.
