Mitt Romney's Middle East Advisor Under Attack

Certain supporters of radical Islamic groups and some journalists have pulled out their heavy artillery to attack Mitt Romney's appointment of Dr. Walid Phares as his advisor on the Middle East.

Dr. Phares has impeccable credentials as a Middle East expert:

When Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney announced last month that Walid Phares -- a Lebanese-American Christian, adjunct professor of jihadist global strategies at the National Defense University, and former Middle East studies professor at Florida Atlantic University -- would be a special adviser on the Middle East and North Africa, it elicited howls of fury from the usual suspects.  Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) -- an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation Hamas funding case and the chief Islamist organ in the U.S. -- sent a letter to the Romney campaign stating CAIR's predictable objections, while publications such as the Daily Beast, Salon.com, and Mother Jones followed suit with error-filled hit pieces.
Phares's moral clarity on Islamism and jihadism do not sit well with those who would rather engage in apologetics and obstructionism.  This explains why his fiercest opponents have included some of the worst from the field of Middle East studies.
Dr. Walid Phares, is the author of The Coming Revolution: Struggle for Freedom in the Middle East. He is an advisor to the U.S. Congress on the Middle East, and teaches Global Strategies at National Defense University. Phares has extensively published on Iranian strategic thinking since the 1980s.

He is the author of the best seller "Future Jihad: Terrorist Strategies Against America." He is an advisor to the U.S. Congress on the Middle East, and teaches Global Strategies at National Defense University. Phares has extensively published on Iranian strategic thinking since the 1980s. He was also a featured interviewee in the award-winning Clarion Fund documentary, Iranium

The following article defending Dr. Phares' reputation was originally published online at The American Thinker on November 13, 2011.

The Middle East Studies Establishment vs. Walid Phares

Islam's Child Soldiers

A video shot in an Al Qaeda camp shows boys as young as 3 years old being trained to wage war on British soldiers. These children are sons of Taliban “martyrs” being trained to replace their fathers.
In Afghanistan, children are used as suicide bombers and human shields more and more. Similarly, there are reports that Hamas uses Palestinian children to carry out acts of terrorism against Israeli children.
In radical Islamic countries, where the burning of a Quran in Florida and a cartoon in Denmark caused mass uprisings and violence, the use of tiny children for jihad generates no response.

Freedom in South Sudan, Terror in the North

South Sudan became independent July 9th after decades of conflict with the Muslim north, in which 2 million people were killed.
Fearing loss of control over non-Arab regions in the north, the radical Islamic leaders continued their military assault on the Nuba Mountains, a mixed Christian, animist, and Muslim region.

From 9/11 to Today

How many attacks have been carried out by Islamic terrorists since 9/11?
There are people who probably think 9/11 WAS the last Islamic terrorist attack. Others, who are more up-to-date on the world of radical Islam, might say the Stockholm bomber was the last.
Did you know that there have been almost-daily terrorist attacks throughout the world in the past decade? Probably not, since mass media, as well as world leaders, have failed to report these horrific acts of violence.
The website www.thereligionofpeace.com has been keeping a tally of jihad attacks worldwide since 9/11. This week, the counter passed 17,000 worldwide terrorist attacks since 9/11, which is equivalent to over 4 separate attacks per day. And mainstream media fails to report this. Maybe its time to take matters into our own hands. How do YOU think we can make difference?

Texan Weapons of Mass Jihad

Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari, a Saudi national and resident of Texas (on a student Visa) was arrested by the FBI last week for attempted use of weapons of mass destruction.
Aldawsari, who allegedly planned to target former member of the U.S. military as well as former U.S. President George W. Bush, his desire for jihad in blog postings and a personal journal.
He also wrote in his journal that he was inspired by Osama bin Laden, that 9/11 had caused a "big change" in his thinking, and that after learning English and how to build explosives, together with nonstop planning to target the “infidel Americans”, it is “time for Jihad.”
Why are people like this given student Visas to come study in the United States?

Shoes, Printers, Underwear, Salad - All Weapons for Al Qaeda

Today is the 9 year anniversary of the 2001 bomb plot on American Airlines flight 63. Richard Reid, a self-proclaimed member of al Qaeda, attempted to blow up an airplane mid-flight by detonating explosives hidden in his shoes.

Shoes. Kind of like hiding bombs in ink cartridges. Or underwear.

Also, it was discovered yesterday that al Qaeda members planned to poison salad bars and buffets at multiple U.S. hotels and restaurants over a single weekend.

In terms of al Qaeda nothing has changed in the past decade. They will use whatever it takes - shoes, printers, underwear, salad - to harm innocent people!

Terror and Counter-Terror, Long Distance Style

Mailed printer toner cartridges filled with chemicals planned to explode midair on its way to Chicago--- wow, al-Qaeda is sure getting creative and desperate to keep on hurting and scaring. The packages were traced back to Yemen where U.S. born al-Qaeda operative Anwar al-Awlaki is believed to be hiding out, keeping busy by inciting hate and inspiring such terror plans (recall the underwear bomber last Christmas). Luckily, the mailed bomb packages were intercepted in England and Dubai after a tip from Saudi Arabia.

With this latest scare, there's been pressure on Yemen to crack down on festering terrorism. Al-Awlaki has been on the CIA's hit list since April and now the Yemen government has finally brought a charge against him, in absentia.

Just take a moment to appreciate the breathtaking international scope of all of this-- from Yemen to Chicago, stopped in Dubai and England, involving the Saudis. Terrorism really does transcend boundaries. The critical question is: Has global counter-terrorism become as effective and coordinated to fight back? This time we've been lucky... who's to say next time? And where's the United Nations in all of this? Shouldn't the UN be more proactively spearheading and improving global counter-terrorism efforts?

Terror Runs Through Europe

America and Japan warns their citizens traveling to Europe. France warns of high terror risk in Britain. Twelve suspected militants arresed in France. The headlines are flaming after eight German militants were killed in a U.S. missile strike in Pakistan on Monday. Terrorism sure is making the world an awfully small, and presently uncomfortable, place.

"We know it's underway. We know it's been directed by al-Qaeda, but we don't know when it may be executed..."

Are European countries regretting the easy immigration of Muslims who then travel abroad for terror training and return to murder and paralyze the country with fear?
