Mitt Romney's Middle East Advisor Under Attack

Certain supporters of radical Islamic groups and some journalists have pulled out their heavy artillery to attack Mitt Romney's appointment of Dr. Walid Phares as his advisor on the Middle East.

Dr. Phares has impeccable credentials as a Middle East expert:

When Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney announced last month that Walid Phares -- a Lebanese-American Christian, adjunct professor of jihadist global strategies at the National Defense University, and former Middle East studies professor at Florida Atlantic University -- would be a special adviser on the Middle East and North Africa, it elicited howls of fury from the usual suspects.  Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) -- an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation Hamas funding case and the chief Islamist organ in the U.S. -- sent a letter to the Romney campaign stating CAIR's predictable objections, while publications such as the Daily Beast, Salon.com, and Mother Jones followed suit with error-filled hit pieces.
Phares's moral clarity on Islamism and jihadism do not sit well with those who would rather engage in apologetics and obstructionism.  This explains why his fiercest opponents have included some of the worst from the field of Middle East studies.
Dr. Walid Phares, is the author of The Coming Revolution: Struggle for Freedom in the Middle East. He is an advisor to the U.S. Congress on the Middle East, and teaches Global Strategies at National Defense University. Phares has extensively published on Iranian strategic thinking since the 1980s.

He is the author of the best seller "Future Jihad: Terrorist Strategies Against America." He is an advisor to the U.S. Congress on the Middle East, and teaches Global Strategies at National Defense University. Phares has extensively published on Iranian strategic thinking since the 1980s. He was also a featured interviewee in the award-winning Clarion Fund documentary, Iranium

The following article defending Dr. Phares' reputation was originally published online at The American Thinker on November 13, 2011.

The Middle East Studies Establishment vs. Walid Phares

Why do they CAIR?

CAIR is once again attempting to limit freedom of speech by asking a federal judge to get rid of all copies of a book that exposes the group’s ties to radical jihad.

The Hamas-linked group is demanding that the book “Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld that’s Conspiring to Islamize America” be removed from all bookstores and online suppliers and be “returned” to CAIR.

Citizens Against Citizens Against Humor Stand Up for South Park Creators

I am sure most of you have heard about the latest South Park drama. Basically, creators Matt Stone and Trey Park depicted Mohammad in a bear costume in the 200th episode of the show. They said that the joke was that he had to be in a suit because they couldn't portray him otherwise. As it turns out they basically received death threats anyways. Now, the site revolutionmuslim.com that initiated the threats has now been hacked. Sounds too funny to be true? It gets better. Now an organization called "Citizens Against Citizens Against Humor" have announced that May 20th will be Everybody Draw Muhammad Day. In the poster below you can see that their goal is to water down the pool of targets and defend the first amendment. First off all, this is an extremely creative way to stand up for freedom of speech. We should continue to look for creative and smart ways to get our point across. However, is it possible this is going to far? Can we come up with a better way to protect our rights and freedoms without being offensive?

Leaving Islam? Controversial Bus Ads Win in Miami

Bus ads in Miami offer support to those interested in leaving Islam. The ads went up and then were quickly pulled down as CAIR claimed they were anti-Islam. After a week of controversy, Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller announce a "major victory for free speech and religious freedom."

leavingislam

Is this sort of advertising anti-Islamic, to say, "Fatwa on your head?" Does it assume that all Muslims live in a situation where their families are threatening them?

Below you can discuss whether or not this bus advertisement is appropriate.

Shocking Update: CAIR Does Not Support Racial Profiling

Have a look at CAIR on The O'Reilly Factor, days after the Christmas terror plot. Ibrahim Hooper is truly a media mastermind. He clearly avoids all questions asked and stays on his messaging. He makes profiling sound ridiculous and describes Muslims being forced to stand in a separate line. Anyone who understands profiling (see this article), must understand it isn't about putting people in different lines. Hooper says in the interview, "It's very easy to give away 'other poeple'." This means that he is trying to show Muslims as "other people", essentially underdogs. However, the newest CAIR campaign shows Muslims to be normal Americans. Sorry Hooper, you can't play for both teams! You may sound slick but we can all see through your polished messaging! Learn more about CAIR by reading a new groundbreaking book- Muslim Mafia.

CAIR: Empowering Muslims to Ignore Terrorism

CAIR Fundraiser CAIR is raising money for a campaign launched last week: A 15 second ad in Times Square, to be seen by millions that highlights the “average” Muslim-American, including a human rights activist and a little league player. Most agree that there are moderate Muslims who are in fact “good Americans.” The issue however is the amount of effort that CAIR is putting towards highlighting Muslims as patriotic, when nowhere on their site is there any condemnation of the Flight 253 terror attack, or other terror attacks for that matter. Not only is this new campaign an attempt to show all Muslims as patriotic, CAIR exudes misplaced priorities by showing that anti-Islamic rhetoric is America’s biggest problem. Forget the threat to our national security. I checked out the press release section to see their response to the huge increase in homegrown terrorist activity. I found nothing. What I did see, however, was a press release condemning the popular and controversial show “Curb Your Enthusiasm” for mocking Jesus. Thank you CAIR. None of us can see through your mask and we actually believe that you care how Christianity is portrayed in the media. If CAIR spent as much time denouncing terrorism as it did playing a ridiculous role of “Serving Our Country,” American Muslims would be far better off. Email CAIR Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper, ihooper@cair.com and let him know that he is doing nothing but hurting American Muslims.

Surge in Terrorist Activity in the US in 2009

To mark the closing of a new year Time Magazine published an article about how the year 2009 saw an "unprecedented surge" of terror activity on US soil. There have been 32 planned attack since the tragedy of 9/11. Some of the more well known cases included the shooting at the Fort Hood military base in November. The murder of a soldier by a Muslim convert in Little Rock, and in January, the arrest of a Long Island convert who pleaded guilty to helping Al Qaeda with a plot to blow up a train in Penn Station. The spokespeople for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) claim that these events do not point to a trend and the charge that Muslim Americans are being radicalized in US Mosques if false. What do you think about this? There is plenty of evidence that points to the fact that this is untrue and four of the cases outlined in the article are about Americans who converted to Islam and then carried out their plans. One of the lessons learned in 2009 is that the internet has become a breeding ground for terrorist training activity. American Muslims are encouraged to stay in the US rather than travel to Pakistan or Afghanistan and commit isolated acts of terror. Brian Jenkin's a RAND corporation expert suggests that many of the young men carrying out these attacks were at a very impressionable age when the attacks on 9/11 were carried out. He says that "some would have been inspired by it and caught up in the jihadist narrative". Thankfully, Americans are becoming more aware that this threat is here and more people are contacting their local officials when they see something suspicious. I wonder what 2010 will bring?
