Between Oil and Women's Rights, UN Chooses Oil (and Saudi Arabia)

Yesterday, the board of UN Women, a new agency on gender equality and women's empowerment, was elected. Saudi Arabia, a country in which women are not even allowed to drive (!) was given an automatic seat on the board.

Who cares if Saudi women can't drive as long as we get the oil we need so that we can drive?!?

By allowing Saudi Arabia, a country which lashes rape victims, and subordinates women in every way possible, the opportunity to influence the worldwide protection of women's rights, the United Nations is both legitimizing discrimination against women, and clarifying its priorities: women's rights are nothing when compared to oil.
